Erectile Dysfunction Therapy Perth
What are erectile difficulties?
Erectile dysfunction refers to ongoing difficulty getting or maintaining an erection firm enough for the sexual activity a person wants. Occasional changes in erection are common; support may be useful when the difficulty persists, causes distress or affects intimacy.
Erection difficulties can involve physical, psychological, medication-related, lifestyle and relationship factors, and often more than one factor is present. Stress, fatigue, alcohol, anxiety and concerns about sexual performance can contribute, but persistent or new erectile changes should also be discussed with a GP. Medical assessment is important because therapy is not a substitute for checking possible physical causes.
The anxiety cycle
A single difficult sexual experience can sometimes lead to increased monitoring, pressure and fear that it will happen again. Attention shifts away from pleasure and connection towards whether an erection is occurring, which can increase anxiety and make the difficulty more likely to continue.
How sex therapy may help
Therapy can explore the factors maintaining the concern and reduce shame or performance pressure. Depending on the situation, sessions may include sexual information, anxiety-management strategies, communication skills, attention and arousal exercises, and structured activities completed privately between sessions. A partner may be involved when helpful and agreed.
There is no physical contact or sexual activity during appointments. Emma does not diagnose or treat underlying medical conditions and may encourage collaboration with a GP or other appropriate health professional. No particular outcome can be guaranteed.
Appointments are available in Roleystone and online.
Support without judgement
Erectile difficulties are common and do not define a person’s sexual worth or the quality of a relationship. Therapy proceeds at a comfortable pace and focuses on the goals agreed with each client.
